The box looks larger on the living-room floor than it feels once the rice goes in. People hit the weight long before they hit the lid. That is the whole trick of a 71 cm × 46 cm × 46 cm carton with a 50 kg cap.
Volume and weight are not the same problem. Clothes, pillows, and empty gift boxes eat the space and weigh very little. Oil, rice, tinned food, shoes, and a small appliance eat the kilos and still leave a gap at the top. Most of the boxes we see from Dubai fail in the second way. They are legally heavy and visually half empty, or they are stuffed until the flaps bow.
A sensible order of packing
Put the dense things in first: tins, oil that has been taped and bagged, shoes, books. Then clothes and softer goods, which also stop the heavy pieces from punching a corner. Leave a little room so the flaps sit flat. A carton that has to be knelt on is already a damaged carton. It just has not torn yet.
If you are near 50 kg and still holding a blender, that blender waits for the next box. Extra weight can be charged. The terms are plain about that. Ordering a second box is usually calmer than arguing with a scale in the corridor.
One box, six countries, same shell
The shell does not change. Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria are AED 400, with customs clearance included, collected in Tema, Douala, or Lagos and Abuja. Uganda, Gabon, and Sierra Leone are AED 450, collected in Kampala, Libreville, or Freetown, and you should ask about customs for those three before you pack. Start at Request a box and pick the country. The size on every one of those pages is the same.
What does not belong, even if it fits
Weapons, explosives, drugs, counterfeit goods, cash, undeclared jewellery, and hazardous material. That list is on the terms, not as a suggestion. If customs takes the carton, there is no refund for prohibited goods. When you are unsure, ask +971 52 492 9941 with a photo before you bury the item under jumpers.
A short list of contents is part of “fitting”. The warehouse and the person collecting the box both need ordinary words: rice, oil, shirts, shoes. Not a novel. Not a blank page.
If this is your first Ghana box, the longer note is here: what packing a Ghana box from Dubai actually looks like.
